Interior Design Specialist Northants and Oxfordshire

A Day in the Life of an Interior Designer

At Texture Interiors in Northamptonshire, creating beautiful, considered interiors to complement our clients’ lifestyles is at the heart of what we do. Whether we’re sourcing soft furnishings for a tranquil living room or thinking wallpaper choices in a fun family room, creative thinking abounds which is why we love what we do! We often get asked about what our job as interior designers entails. This is why we thought it would make a perfect blog post on our website. We are fortunate to have such creative roles as there’s always something to be getting on with and no time for clock watching! Now it is time for you to read about a typical day in the life of an interior designer working in Northamptonshire…

9.30 – 10am
The day starts off with a good cup of coffee, followed by a catch up on emails, checking in with the team about priorities for the day ahead.

Fabric Options for Curtains and Blinds
9.15 – 11.15am

A client consultation is scheduled within our dedicated interiors room at Plantation House looking through fabric options for a pair of lounge curtains and blinds. We’ve been discussing the idea of a wave track to achieve those perfect pleats!

Sourcing Inspiration
11.15 – 12.15pm

Back at our desks we begin sourcing inspiration for our upcoming projects. We’ll gain inspiration from the vast array of wallcoverings, fabrics, paints in our Interiors room, along with our access to a wide range of suppliers. Of course, Pinterest, Home magazines and the vast expanse of the internet also help!

Measuring Up
12.30 – 2pm

We’re off to a new client’s house to measure up the space for curtains, blinds, furniture and accessories. This particular client lives in a beautiful barn conversion which needs a little TLC on the edge of Oxfordshire! With tape measure, laser, grid paper and pencil in hand we’ll take measurements of the  space  to ensure we draw up accurate plans at the office. We’ll also take photos to help visualise the space once we’re back at our desks.

Briefing
2 – 3pm
Returning to  the Showroom, we de-brief with the interiors team and discuss ideas for this latest project. This is such an exciting part of the design process where we’ll also begin drawing up the floor plan whilst the room is fresh in our minds.

Admin
3 – 5pm

Time for some quiet time  where we’ll get up to date with the admin side of the job. Job sheets for our curtain maker need writing, orders need placing for fabrics, samples and furniture. It’s time to catch up on emails and make sure we know the latest status of each client, before signing off for the day.
