Red wine or hot chocolate?

At this time of year our focus tends to turn to all things that keep us warm and cosy and that includes drinks. If you’re like us, when relaxing by the fire the question is often – a lovely rich glass of red wine or a nice cosy hot chocolate? However, when browsing Pinterest the other day we came across this recipe for Red Wine Hot Chocolate and just had to share it with you! We no longer have to choose between the two!

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup of semi-skimmed milk

1/3 cup dark chocolate chunks

1 cup red wine

Optional: 1 teaspoon of sugar (to taste)

Instructions

Combine the milk and chocolate chips in a saucepan over medium heat, melting the chocolate until you have a lovely thick creamy pan of chocolatey goodness. Add in your red wine of choice and continue to heat gently until it’s all nicely warmed through and ready to drink.

This recipe is RICH so you might not want a whole mug of it, but as a winter warmer it is delicious. The above makes 2 mugs or 6 to 8 smaller cups. The beauty as well is that you can experiment so that it suits your taste.  Whether you prefer dark or milk chocolate –  either will work; you can play around with the red wine you choose and see how that changes the flavour, or if you want to spice it up a bit then add a hint of chilli or cayenne pepper for an extra kick. Or if you think it’s not rich enough already you could always try adding cream and marshmallows for a more traditional winter warmer.

If you try this recipe yourself don’t forget to let us know on our Facebook page how you got on and what little twists you added.
