Basil Does… Storm Angus

The Bell, Shenington, Oxfordshire

Basil’s excursion was a little less outdoorsy this month as Storm Angus soon put a stop to our plans. Ok so we weren’t actually in the midst of the actual storm on the south coast but we did wake up to a dreary grey day and even Basil didn’t fancy being out in the wind and rain. The thought of cosying up indoors by a fire was far more appealing to all of us. So instead we took a drive around the pretty countryside of South Warwickshire and ended up in the lovely village of Shenington, just as their warm and welcoming pub ‘The Bell’ was starting to serve Sunday lunch.

basil-fire-2Basil immediately took refuge in front of the wood burning stove accompanied by a ready supply of pork scratchings.Lunch was delicious – generous servings with an imaginative twist on a traditional Sunday lunch. The menu wasn’t extensive – always a good sign in our opinion – and everything was beautifully presented and truly delicious.  They couldn’t have been more welcoming and Basil gave it a massive paws-up too so we’ll definitely be back!  But next time he expects to have worked up an appetite with an exhausting walk around the beautiful Edgehill countryside.  Famous as the first battle of the Civil War, Edgehill and its surrounding area offers many excellent walks with stunning views, pretty villages and a few steep climbs. Normally Basil would be up for the challenge but today, toasting his paws in front of a roaring fire after a sneaky snack of roast beef was far preferable.
