Basil Does… Lambing

Basil has certainly been getting into the spirit of Spring this month. He even had a go at lambing.

We mentioned last month that Basil loves to watch the sheep in the field behind us at home, but we were all surprised to spot a new born lamb in amongst them because they are stock rather than breeding sheep.

Sadly, as the mother was so young herself, she rejected her newborn so we stepped in to help. Luckily Texture’s skills go beyond all things interiors and our colleague Louise has grown up farming organic sheep and cattle so knew exactly what to do. A quick emergency trip to Countrywide in Towcester and we had everything we needed for hand rearing. Louise was amazing, and this little one owes her very strong start in life to her shepherding skills.

Even Basil did his bit– trying to lick her clean then keeping her entertained by attempting to play with her (see our Facebook page for footage of Basil playing with his new friend). But much as we would have loved to have carried on taking care of this gorgeous lamb, she needed regular feeding and Texture really isn’t big enough for Basil and a lamb. Thankfully a kind friend was able to help, and Blossom, as she is now known, has gone to a lovely home where she can be properly looked after. She has even found a fellow-rescue friend.
