Basil Does… Northumberland
We packed Basil’s bags and headed off on holiday last week to a part of the country we have never visited but long wanted to.
Happily, Northumberland is as spectacular as had been reported: huge open spaces; hilly country walks where we didn’t meet a soul (although lots of sheep); expansive forests, beautiful rivers and streams where Basil kept up his paddling, and the longest beaches we have ever walked along.
A little bit of everything. We were staying near Allendale Town, home to several dog friendly pubs serving delicious beers from their local Allendale Brewery.
Basil proved inexhaustible – running 3 miles for every one of ours walked.
And of course he charmed everyone he came into contact with – Northumberland is extremely dog friendly and Basil certainly made the most of it.
We shall definitely return to explore more of this under-visited county but for now have come back home for a rest!
